Prevention not Destruction

What is ABF's mission?

ABF exists solely to provide funds to help offset the costs of a spay or neuter surgery for cats and dogs. In this way, ABF works to reduce the pet overpopulation problem in Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties.

ABF also strives to make a difference in the lives of feral cats through our feral cat program. Through this program, we subsidize the spay or neuter surgery and provide a felv/fiv combo test. Please call for details.

What does ABF provide?

If funding is available, Animal's Best Friend will pay for part of your pet's spay/neuter surgery. The supplement amounts are as follows:

Male Cat   $30     Female Cat   $40

Male Dog   $50    Female Dog  $60

How do I get this help?

Each month ABF works with certain area vet clinics by authorizing the clinic to provide a certain amount in subsidies.

Call 269-624-1090 and listen to the recording to find out what vets have been selected and then make an appointment with one of them. Ask when you schedule the appointment if there is any ABF money left to apply to your pet's surgery.

Your best chance of getting the surgery subsidized is by scheduling your appointment early in the month when the clinics are first authorized to use the money.

What if the clinic says there is no money left?

You can try calling some of the other clinics that were selected for the month and schedule the surgery there. You can also contact the Kalamazoo Humane Society at 269-345-1181. They offer spay/neuter vouchers as well as the Operation Fix-It program.

What doesn't ABF do?

Spay/neuter is Animal's Best Friend's only function. If you need help with other vet care, help finding a home for an animal or want to adopt a pet, please contact some of the other Michigan organizations who may be able to assist you.
